New Releases: January 28, 2022 - Kings And Liars

New Releases: January 28, 2022 - Kings And Liars

KINGS AND LIARS LEAVING THEIR OWN SCARS

KINGS AND LIARS - TRANSITION ANIMALS

For those keeping score, I recently did several top albums of 2021 shows, one with my Patrons, and a few recapping my personal favorites on the Mars Attacks Radio Show. One of the most listened-to albums of 2021 and now in 2022, at least for me is Dee Snider's Leave A Scar. Brothers Charlie and Nick Bellmore are behind Dee's last few solo albums. Add Chartipher Taylor Beaudette, and you have Kings And Liars.

Together, they're associated not only with Dee, but with Kingdom Of Sorrow, Jasta, Entierro, Toxic Holocaust, and the upcoming solo release by Cannibal Corpse lead singer, George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher.

Due to this, I was really hyped up to listen to Transition Animals. You can obviously connect the dots to some of the bands mentioned above. But this is an animal of a different sort.

Sure, you can hear the connection to what they're doing in some of these bands. They're writing plenty of the material, and playing with these bands, so their DNA is there. But they're playing with a lot of iconic vocalists. People that have their own unique vocal imprint on hard rock and metal.

Kings And Liars have created their own vocal identity. The harmonies on these tracks are really good. Several songs have melodies that will be renting space in your head for days at a time.

They even go as far as covering R.E.M.'s classic, "The One I Love". Along with "Orange Crush", I always thought "The One I Love" would be a great track for a hard rock or metal band to cover. They put their own spin on the song, so unless you know it's coming, or you're paying attention, you may not notice it initially!

This is a solid album top to bottom, if you're into Tremonti, Monte Pittman, Stereomud, Black Water Rising, or other hard rock that's on the heavier side of the spectrum, this is an album you should check out.

Here Kings And Liars with the "Conquering The Fear" off of their latest album Transition Animals.

This is a multiple-choice quiz. You can play on your phone, tablet, or computer. All you need to do is have Twitch installed.

You need to play strategically. Does it make sense to answer a question you're not sure about and lose points? Or not answer and keep your points? But will you fall behind by not answering? Split decisions, all in a matter of 20 seconds!

What to join in on the action, or watch and hang out in the chat? Go here to do so.

New Releases: January 21, 2022 - The Ferrymen

New Releases: January 21, 2022 - The Ferrymen

THE FERRYMEN ARE BACK WITH ALBUM NUMBER THREE

THE FERRYMEN - ONE MORE RIVER TO CROSS

This is round number three for The Ferrymen. For those that don't know, or haven't seen the album's cover, which is displayed above, the band is made up of Magnus Karlsson, Ronnie Romero, and Mike Terrana. The trio is made up of all-star musicians in their own right, having played with Rainbow, Primal Fear, Yngwie Malmsteen, and a ton more. Magnus has been one of Frontiers Records' main go-to guys for the last few years, no surprise this album is on Frontiers.

If you're into what Frontiers offers, you're going to love this album. If you're into the Whitesnake formula of a few heavy riff-driven songs mixed in with some ballads, you'll probably love this album. It's a pretty standard release by the band. Nothing that really sucks, and nothing that really stands out either.

I felt that with the band's previous album A New Evilthey turned things up a notch, especially Magnus, and his playing. He sounded like John Sykes on that album to me, and here on One More River To Cross, he's come back to the pack. Again, his playing isn't bad, it's just what you've come to expect.

Although I think the band has taken a step back, I encourage you to check the album out below, and form your own opinion!

Here are The Ferrymen with the track "One Word" off of their latest album One More River To Cross.

New Releases: January 14, 2022 - Tony Martin

New Releases: January 14, 2022 - Tony Martin

TONY MARTIN RETURNS!

TONY MARTIN - THORNS

Right off the bat, I want to admit to being a fan of the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath. I realize that there are a lot of people that pan his era because he's not Ozzy or Dio. But Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Cross Purposes, and Forbidden are all-important albums in my record collection.

Yes, there are people out there that will instantly say "but they're not better than Volume 4, or Heaven And Hell or (insert any other classic Sabbath album)." And my reply is always the same, do they have to be? I always make the food analogies, you don't say "no way I'm not eating a burger because it comes with a side of fries." You can enjoy the main course with a complimentary side, why can't people do the same with music?

I'll also admit, that when I heard the first single "As The World Burns" I was kind of turned off. I felt as if there was too much going on in the song. The drumming especially felt kind of busy to me. Getting back to what Lemmy once said "Just cos you got the power, that don't mean you've got the right." Just because you can play a million notes, that doesn't mean you should! In my opinion, it felt like they were trying too hard.

After hearing the track, I instantly thought about last year's KK's Priest album, which to me had either great tracks or songs that did absolutely nothing for me. I tried to get into the album several times. It shows promise for the future but shows that as great of a songwriter KK is, he needs others to help get him over the top.

Back to Thorns, I went into the album with an open mind. I go into every album I listen to wanting to enjoy it, not crap on it. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Thorns is a great mix of various hard rock and metal styles. As much as I didn't get "As The World Burns" initially, it works in the context of the album. The other thing that caught me off guard is how the acoustic guitar was used on the album. Yes, you have Iommi-like passages, but you also have songs built around non-distorted guitars that just work. You also have a keyboard solo in the middle of a track instead of your standard guitar solo.

If you're a fan of Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime, the title track "Thorns" features Pamela Moore.

The album is great top to bottom, if you're a fan of Tony Martin's work in Black Sabbath,  then you'll more than likely love the album. It leaves me with the question, are these tracks so good because he's had them in the can all these years? Or are the tracks all fairly new?

It is a January album, hopefully people will remember it when it comes to their end of 2022 lists!

Here is Tony Martin with the track "As The World Burns" off of his latest album Thorns.
